Talmont-sur-Gironde

Talmont-sur-Gironde is a small village of only 80 inhabitants located in the Poitou-Charentes region, in the department of Charente-Maritime, overlooking the Gironde estuary. It is a fortified village and was founded around 1284 by order of Edward I. During the Hundred Years' War it was a strategic place and in 1652 it was destroyed by the Spaniards. Talmont-sur-Gironde is on the list of the most beautiful and flowery villages in France. For me, it was a breath of fresh air after a long day's travel. It may be a small town but you don't know where to look, everything is beautiful, simple and free. For me, personally, the best village in this region. If you arrive by car, parking is a bit complicated because if you don't do it early, you end up parking where the air turns, but hey, it's a nice walk to stretch your legs. If you want to enjoy the peace and quiet that this small village offers, choose spring to avoid the high season of summer. The best time to visit it, in my opinion, is at the last minute to be able to contemplate a beautiful sunset.
